General Liability Certificates of Insurance

This spreadsheet of frequently asked questions for General Liability insurance is designed to communicate what is provided by our model guidelines issued by Travelers and The Hartford Insurance Companies. Requirements for other operators will vary, contact your insurance broker for more information.
Q: What is a certificate of insurance Depository A:? Certificates of insurance issued as proof of insurance. Not be issued automatically when a policy is purchased or renewed. They are issued by the insurance agency on request. The need for a certificate is usually generated by a customer or project owner, who wants evidence that certain insurance requirements are met by consultants working for them or on their behalf. The certificate shows the types of coverage, limit and deductible amounts, and effective and retroactive dates of relevant insurance policies. It is issued for informational purposes only and assigns any rights to the candidate. The certificate does not change, extend or alter coverage and does not constitute a contract
Q:.? Can the General Liability policy be modified to meet specific requirements contract
A: Our model policy is designed specifically for A / E professionals and as such, automatically include the most common changes in accordance with the contract. Built directly into the policy language, the amendments provided for a blanket basis, “and is engaged when required by written contract.
* Additional assured this is an agreement on naming a third party as an insured under your insurance contract. With this endorsement, agrees with the insurance company to provide coverage for defense and indemnity if a claim is made against a third party with respect to premises you rent, or work you do on their behalf, among other types of contractual relationships. Curtain additional insured wording on our model guidelines provide additional insured status automatically when required by written contract. Some Certificate holders will ask to be “specifically” named as an additional insured. This serves the same purpose, but specifically lists the additional insured’s name for endorsement. It is a modest charge for this endorsement to be added to our model policy.
* Primary and non-contributory Additional Insured status When a person or organization is added as an additional insured for general liability policy for another, that person or organization then has two possible general liability policy in place. Primary and Non-Contributory Values wording clarifies the order in which each of these two guidelines will react in the event of a claim. When you have contractually agreed to provide Primary and Non-Contributory Values status to an additional insured, they will have primary coverage under your insurance and your insurance company agrees that the second policy would not be expected to contribute to “primary” policy limits are exhausted.
* Waiver of Subrogation Once this is included as part of the policy, the waiver of subrogation clause further clarification that the General Assembly Liability insurance company will waive their right to subrogate a claim. This means that the insurance company will not attempt to obtain reimbursement from another responsible party, such as additional insured, for defense and indemnity costs it has paid. Waiver of Subrogation reacts only when it has been contractually agreed upon before loan
. Q: What are the rules of cancellation clause
A:? The ACORD25S 2009/09 is the latest version of the certificate of insurance, it says “Should any of the above described policies be canceled before the expiration date thereof, notice will be delivered in accordance with the policy provisions.” It appears, each State’s own specific regulatory provisions of the reasons a policy may be canceled, and how much notice is required. Most common is the length of notice 10 days for nonpayment of premiums. Other reasons, such as significant change in the operation of an insured or non-compliance with insurance company requests / requirements, generally requires a longer notice period. Carriers generally WILL NOT extend the regulatory notice provisions. Any exceptions must be specifically authorized by the underwriters and the policy approved equivalent. Manipulate the wording on the certificate will not change the insurance company’s obligation under the policy. Furthermore, “will endeavor” to mail cancellation certificate holders have been eliminated as it is not particularly supported by the policy wording
Q:. Does my policy have a cross liability exclusion or separation of insured language?
A: There is no cross-liability exclusion in our model policy that would prevent an insured versus insured claims scenario. To the contrary, our model guidelines include a separation of insured provision that says each insured under the policy (named insured and additional insured) will be treated separately and individually. This is often referred to as the invalidity of interest. Essentially, with separation of space and language in cross-liability absent, it is applied for each insured in the same manner as if separate policies were issued, except for restrictions
Q:. Does my policy have an X, C, U exclusion
A:? These exceptions, which stands for explosion, Collapse, and Underground is NOT standard exceptions in the current general liability contract. As such, the standard contract model for our policy X, C, U coverage
Q:. Have Additional Insured Endorsement include Completed Operations
A:? Our model policies include completed operations. This means that the completed operations coverage is in place AFTER completion of the work, but only for claims arising under the covered policy period
Q:.? Are there changes in Workers Compensation Coverage
A: Additional insured and waiver of subrogation, as described below, are the most requested changes to the Workers Compensation policy.
* Additional Insured – these are not approved by our existing operators as this would indicate that you agree to cover other devices employees on workers’ compensation policy
* Waiver of Subrogation -. these can be honored on either a blanket basis or a specific basis. There is an additional premium charges related thereto, and the coverage must be approved by the insurance company. (Exemptions are allowed in all states)
Q:. Are there changes in the Auto Coverage Lists A:? Additional insured status and exemption from Subrogation is usually included on a blanket basis by an automatic optional endorsement is standard for our model policy.
